It’s past six
My texts go unanswered
Calls slither to voicemail
I glance again at the clock
Moving faster than normal?
Shushing my heartbeat
I start kneading the dough
My ear on the radio
Any mention of I-270?
It’s past seven
The sunlight is fading
Heat of the oven is stifling
Walls seem to move closer
I kneel down in prayer
Mention your name to Him
Ask forgiveness for my sins
It’s past eight
My mind is numb, body frozen
Please no one call me now or ever
I don’t want to know
Then, the phone rings
Loud and clear
Loud and clear
Lies shattered on the floor
Enjoyed the rhythm of your poem and the emotion behind it
You did well to show, not tell the emotion of this poem. I liked "calls slither to voicemail."
Thanks Namy!
The way you described her rising panic with the passing of time was clear and relatable. I like how this all hinged on a phone call.
Slither to voicemail is such a great line!
Thanks, I tried.
Thanks James!Don't see a lot of poems here.
Thanks Danielle!
Glad you liked it, I started loving it soon as I wrote it:)
I can feel the rise of tension throughout. Great job!
